Aloha Pacific Federal Credit Union made 75% more loans in 2025, most of them refinances and home-improvement loans to people who already own homes, and won share in Urban Honolulu.
Its loans rose to 255 from 146, while similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans) grew 6%; its growth was higher than at about nine in ten of them. Its record swings widely, from 66 loans in 2022 to 420 in 2023. Its 2024 merger with Oahu Federal Credit Union may have added members and loans.
Refinances made up 51.4% of its loans and home improvement 23.5%; purchases were only 10.2%. Its typical loan, $205,000, was larger than at about nine in ten peers. Its typical rate, 5.75%, was lower than at about nine in ten, and none of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans).
It ranks 27 of 223 lenders in Urban Honolulu, and its share rose 0.3 points to 0.7%. Bank of Hawaii, United Wholesale Mortgage and Walker & Dunlop lead that market.
Majority-minority neighborhoods took 95.3% of its loans, against 12.0% at peers, which may reflect the Hawaii markets it serves rather than any lending choice. Low- and moderate-income (LMI) neighborhoods took 11.8%, against 16.1%, lower than at about four in five peers. Its larger loans and refinance mix may draw more on homeowners in better-off neighborhoods.
