Southern Bancorp Bank is an Arkansas bank focused on home purchases, whose lending grew 14% in 2025 and which made far more of its loans in majority-minority areas than similar lenders: 28.1%, against 7.0%.
Originations rose 14% to 794, while similar lenders (state member banks making between half and twice as many loans) grew 7% and the whole market 10%. Lending rose to $156.0 million from $104.2 million as its typical loan rose to $135,000 from $95,000, still smaller than at about four in five peers, where it was $195,000.

Its share rose 0.2 points to 0.4% in Jackson, MS, and it first lent in Chicago, Houston and Tuscaloosa in 2025. In Hot Springs, where it ranked 6 of 240, its share fell 1.6 points to 2.9%; stronger competition there, or more of its lending going to other markets, could explain it.
