United Nations Federal Credit Union makes far larger loans than other credit unions of its size, with a typical loan of $585,000, and its originations rose 17% in 2025, against 9% at similar lenders.
Its typical loan, $585,000, was the largest among similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), against $115,000. Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 10.9% of its originations, higher than at about nine in ten peers (1.1%). Purchase loans were 65.7% and refinance 33.2%, with almost no home-improvement lending.

LMI (low- and moderate-income) borrowers took 4.8% of its loans, the lowest share among its peers (27.0%), and LMI areas 11.1% (peers 15.2%). Its large loans are one possible reason. Majority-minority areas took 36.0%, higher than at more than four in five peers (10.4%).
None of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), against 1.5% at peers, and its typical rate, 5.75%, was among the lowest tenth of its peers (7.00%). Its refinance denial rate, 13.9%, was lower than its peers' 20.8%.
