Our analysis, 2025
Goldenwest Federal Credit Union, a Utah lender centred on Ogden and Logan and focused on refinance and home-improvement loans, grew faster than most similar credit unions in 2025 and gained share in each of its five largest markets.
Loans rose 23% to 3,215, higher than more than four in five similar lenders (credit unions making between half and twice as many loans), whose typical growth was 9%; the whole market grew 10%. It remains below the 5,278 loans of 2020.
It ranks 3 of 176 in Logan, with 8.0% of the market, up 0.8 points, and 6 of 308 in Ogden, with 4.8%, up 0.5 points. Shares also rose in St. George, Provo-Orem-Lehi and Salt Lake City-Murray, and it entered Missoula and non-metro Oregon and New Mexico in 2025.
Only 11.6% of its loans were for a home purchase; refinance made up 33.7% and home improvement 30.6%. None of its loans were higher-priced (a rate well above the average for similar loans), against 1.5% at peers. Its typical rate, 7.50%, was higher than about three in four peers, which its mix of home-improvement and other-purpose loans could explain.
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 27.5% of its loans, in line with peers. But 9.6% went to LMI tracts, against 14.9%, lower than nearly all peers, and 2.6% to majority-minority tracts, against 9.6%. Its footprint, centred on Ogden and Logan, could explain much of this.
