FirstBank is a Colorado bank that lends in larger amounts than similar banks and ranks seventh in Denver, though its loan count stays well below its 2020-2022 levels.
Volume settled lower after 2022
Loans fell 3% to 3,315 while similar lenders (state member banks making between half and twice as many loans) typically rose 1% and the whole market 10%. Loans dropped from 7,570 in 2022 to 3,430 in 2023 and have stayed near that level since. Its $1.49 billion lent was still higher than about seven in ten peers.
Larger loans than its peers
Jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 17.1% of its lending against 4.5% at peers, higher than more than nine in ten of them. Its typical loan was $255,000 against $215,000, and 99.9% of its loans were conventional.
A long-standing Colorado lender losing a little share
It ranks 7 of 754 in Denver-Aurora-Centennial, where it has lent since before 1990, with 1.9% of the market against 2.0% a year earlier. Its Boulder share fell 1.2 points to 2.6%, and its Fort Collins-Loveland share eased 0.1 points to 2.3%. Gains by competitors such as Elevations Credit Union, second in Boulder, could be one reason.
LMI borrowers above peers, LMI areas near the middle
Low- and moderate-income (LMI) borrowers took 27.5% of its loans against 24.6% at peers. Its LMI-tract share, 14.8%, is near the middle but down from 18.7%, and majority-minority tracts took 11.8% against 14.2%, which could reflect its Colorado footprint or its larger loans.
