Covantage Credit Union is the leading lender in Wausau, Wisconsin, with 21.0% of the market, and lends to low- and moderate-income borrowers much more often than similar credit unions.
It ranks 1 of 196 in Wausau, where its share rose to 21.0% from 19.3%, ahead of Cloverbelt Credit Union, second. It ranks 3 of 659 in non-metro Wisconsin, and in Oshkosh-Neenah its share doubled to 3.0% from 1.5%. Originations rose 5% to 4,062, against 8% for similar lenders, credit unions making between half and twice as many loans, and 10% for the whole market.
Refinances were 48.0% of its loans, other purposes 27.0% and purchases 24.7%, with almost no home-improvement lending. Its typical loan of $85,000 against $110,000 was lower than about nine in ten similar lenders'.
