Broadview Federal Credit Union is an upstate New York home-improvement lender whose loans rose 22% in 2025, and it ranks third in Albany-Schenectady-Troy.
Similar lenders are credit unions making between half and twice as many loans. Its originations rose 22% to 4,585, against 8% for similar lenders and 10% for the whole market, faster than about five in six of them. They have more than doubled from 2,140 in 2020; the jump to 4,136 in 2022 came in the year it merged with Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, which may account for part of it.
Home improvement made up 60.6% of its loans and purchases 6.2%. Its typical loan of $75,000 against $115,000 was lower than nearly all similar lenders', and jumbo loans (larger than the conforming limit) were 0.0% against 1.3%. Higher-priced loans (a rate well above the average for similar loans) were 0.0% against 1.5%.
In Albany-Schenectady-Troy its share rose to 7.2% from 6.3%, third behind SEFCU Services and Homestead Funding. It also gained in Glens Falls, to 2.1% from 1.2%, and in Buffalo-Cheektowaga, to 1.2% from 0.6%.
LMI (low- and moderate-income) borrowers took 23.6% of its loans against 27.5%, and 10.5% were in LMI areas against 15.2%, lower than about six in seven similar lenders. Majority-minority areas had 3.1% against 9.1%. Lending to existing homeowners for improvements, and a footprint in one state's upstate metros, are possible reasons.
