Renasant Bank leans on government-backed mortgages far more than similar banks, and in 2025 it grew its loan count 21%, faster than nearly nine in ten of them, while leading the non-metro Mississippi market.
A heavy government-loan lender
14.1% of its loans were FHA (insured by the Federal Housing Administration), 4.8% VA (guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs) and 2.9% RHS (guaranteed by the Department of Agriculture's Rural Housing Service). Each is well above the typical similar lender (state member banks making between half and twice as many loans), whose shares are 5.6%, 1.8% and 0.6%. That mix may reflect first-time and rural buyers in its markets.
Growth ahead of the group
Originations rose 21% to 8,976, against 9% for similar lenders and 10% for the whole market, though well below the 23,394 of 2020. Its merger with The First Bank in 2025 may explain part of the rise.
More lending in LMI and majority-minority areas than most peers
17.0% of its loans were in LMI (low- and moderate-income) areas and 26.0% in majority-minority areas, each higher than about three-quarters of similar lenders; the second figure was 10.0% five years before. Its typical rate, 6.69%, matched the typical peer. It turned down 7.6% of first-lien refinance applications on owner-occupied homes, against 18.9% for peers, and 6.1% of purchase applications, against 8.6%.
Gaining in Charleston, slipping in Birmingham
It ranks first of 438 lenders in non-metro Mississippi. Its share in Charleston rose to 1.3% from 0.9%, while in Birmingham, where it ranks 9 of 523, it eased to 2.0% from 2.2%.
